Rev. David D. Daubert
Pastor Daubert currently works as Executive for Renewal of Congregations in
the ELCA Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission (EOCM). His work
involves the transformation of existing congregations as well as directing
the "In the City for Good".
Pastor Dave Daubert is the oldest of three children and grew up in upstate
New York. He attended Virginia Tech where he majored in Agricultural
Engineering. While in college, friends invited him to church and through
involvement in campus ministry, he became active in the Lutheran Church and
was confirmed as an adult. Following graduation he moved to Peoria, IL,
where he worked as a research engineer for Caterpillar Tractor Company.
In 1984 Pastor Daubert left Caterpillar to attend Trinity Lutheran Seminary
in Columbus, Ohio where he received a Master of Divinity and a Master of
Sacred Theology degree. During this time he served his internship here in
Texas. He has also received a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from the
Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and a Ph. D. in Theological Studies
from the Graduate Theological Foundation. Pastor Daubert redeveloped an
urban congregation in Columbus, Ohio then served as Assistant to the Bishop
for Urban and Multicultural Ministries in Omaha, Nebraska.
In addition to his work at the ELCA, he is the pastor at Zion Lutheran
Church in Elgin, Illinois. He lives in Elgin with his wife, Marlene, and
their two children, Erin and Nathan.
A Youth Leadership Event "Convo" is held in conjunction with the assembly.
Convo is for all youth in grades 9-12. Cost is $135 which includes meals,
lodging, and supplies. A separate registration packet will be mailed to all
churches.

Mark S. Hanson
Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Born in Minneapolis on Dec. 2, 1946, the Rev. Mark S. Hanson graduated from
Minnehaha Academy in 1964, and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from
Augsburg College in 1968. He was a Rockefeller Fellow at Union Theological
Seminary from 1968 to 1969, received a master of divinity degree from Union
Theological Seminary, New York, in 1972, and attended Luther Seminary, St.
Paul, Minn., from 1973 to 1974. He was a Merrill Fellow at Harvard
University Divinity School, Cambridge, Mass., in 1979.
Following his ordination in 1974, Hanson served parishes in Minnesota for 22
years. He was elected bishop of the Saint Paul Area Synod of the ELCA in
1995, and had been reelected to a second term as synodical bishop prior to
his election as presiding bishop of the ELCA in 2001. Bp. Hanson is also
concurrently serving as president of the Lutheran World Federation.
The presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is
elected to a six-year term by the Churchwide Assembly. In addition to
fulfilling such roles as preacher, teacher and administrator of the
sacraments, which traditionally belong to the office of bishop, the
presiding bishop of this church serves as president and chief executive
officer of the corporation and oversees the staff, budget, and overall
administration of the church.
The presiding bishop chairs the biennial Churchwide Assembly and provides for the preparation of agendas for the
assembly, the Church Council and its executive committee, the Conference of
Bishops, and the Cabinet of Executives. The presiding bishop is also the
chief ecumenical officer of this church, and provides leadership and care
for the bishops of the synods |
