Campus Ministry
CAMPUS MINISTRY MISSION FUND
Lutheran Campus Ministry extends the mission
outreach of ELCA congregations by serving young adults at college
and university campuses in the Northern Texas – Northern Louisiana
Synod. Through this ministry, Jesus encounters students in
communities formed around God’s Word and the sacraments and calls
them to follow him faithfully. Currently there are five
congregation-based partnership ministries and one full-time campus
ministry at the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s
University. These ministries
- Draw young adults into safe, caring, inviting,
hospitable communities of worship, learning and service;
- Nurture students into greater maturity in the
Christian faith;
- Care for the spiritual and emotional needs of
young adults during a time of great change and opportunity;
- Challenge and equip talented and committed
students for leadership in church and world, including ordained
and lay professional ministry; and
- Obey the Great Commission by making disciples
among persons 18 to 26, the age group that is least connected to
the church.

there is no
doubt that one of the steps along the road of faith
formation for many people is their maturation in faith
during their college years. In fact, faith formation during
these years often feels more like a struggle and a crisis.
It is a time of questioning, seeking and affirming one’s
self in relation to God and the world."
"The NT-NL Synod seeks to be
present for our college students at various college and
university campuses around us … I hope that you will
consider supporting the Campus Ministry Mission Fund
through your prayer and contributions. Make it a part of
your and your congregation’s on-going regular giving so
that this crucial part of our outreach can be fully
realized. It is fitting that we do so for we are a synod
committed to Claiming the Great Mission Commission." |

families, pastors, camps, youth groups, and a host of others

I
sadly think, however, that LCM is one of the most neglected
and “set-aside” ministries of the ELCA, at least from my
experience. We support our children from baptism through
graduation with any number of programs, in and out of our
churches. We offer other programs for young adults, parents,
empty-nesters, senior citizens, and countless other
age-and-socially based groups.
It seems, however, that many churches
send their youth off to college with the full expectation
that they will return of their own volition, to worship and
practice stewardship in Christ’s ministry in the church of
their youth. However, without the spiritual, active, and
financial support of our congregations, this wonderful
program of Lutheran Campus Ministry will not survive and
those expectations may likely fall short of reality. LCM not
only provides our college-aged youth with a good Christian
social outlet, but it provides the opportunity of growth in
the education and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. I
implore everybody to seriously consider Lutheran Campus
Ministry, not only as an important ministry of outreach for
the ELCA. But as a critical link in the chain the holds our
church together.

| Here at the Lutheran
Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, I often tell people that
I am a strong proponent of Lutheran Campus Ministry. LCM was
a very important part of my life during my undergraduate and
graduate schooling, and I plan to give as much as I can back
to LCM whether or not I will serve there in a called
position. |
