Annual Candidacy Retreat
Briarwood Retreat Center, Argyle, Texas
November 30-December 1
Come meet your Candidacy Committee members and fellow students for 22 hours of spiritual nurture, worship, and relaxation after a busy semester and prior to the Christmas holidays.
All who are in the Candidacy Process – candidates for ordination or commissioning, candidates in the traditional track or in the TEEM track, plus committee members. Those on internship and in special circumstances may not be able to attend; that’s ok. Those in their first or fourth year of seminary are especially encouraged to attend.
Will This Be Fun or Work?
Fun, of course! The retreat is for renewal and relaxation…time for worship, discussion, and fellowship… time to meet with Bishop Erik Gronberg… time to get to know your committee members and fellow students better. Barbara Debski, our Portico representative, will be leading the retreat portion of the weekend.
Work? Well, a few folks will be coming to the committee meeting Friday daytime for Entrance, Endorsement, Approval Interviews. And then the fun begins.
Where and When?
The retreat will be held at Briarwood Retreat Center in Argyle (near Denton). We will look for you to arrive by 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 30 (supper together at 6 p.m. at the camp), and we will close by 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 1. (The committee will have met prior to the retreat.)
What Should I Bring?
The retreat takes place in Quail Run, a comfortable meeting room with adjoining motel-like sleeping accommodations. This isn’t roughing it. No need to bring linens or sleeping bags, just comfortable clothes and a joyful spirit.
And This Will Cost Me How Much?
The NT-NL Synod pays for the retreat site, meals, and event expenses. The event is free for you and your spouse and pays up to half the travel expense for the candidate (sorry, not spouse). If you will be flying in, please book as reasonable an airfare as possible and check with Pastor Kris Totzke if you have any questions.
