SUMMARY:2015 LSPS Spanish Language and Hispanic Ministry Intensive
DESCRIPTION:Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest (LSPS) will offer a Spanish Language and Hispanic Ministry Intensive I in May 24-29\, 2015. \nThe Intensive is a resource for Lutherans and those of other denominations who recognize the growing need for competency in the Spanish language and an understanding of Hispanic culture in light of the increasing Hispanic population in this country and in the church. \nThe course focuses on the study of the Spanish language and on different aspects of Hispanic culture\, ranging from cuisine to dancing. DESCRIPTION:This new Level II Intensive is designed for congregational leaders in those congregations where consideration is being given to starting Hispanic Ministry in their community. Teams from congregations are encouraged to attend. During this week teams will learn: \n\nTo increase capacity for doing Hispanic ministry\nTo learn several models for engaging in Hispanic ministry in congregational settings\nTo improve facility in Spanish language\, especially liturgical Spanish\nTo build a cohort of colleagues preparing for Hispanic ministry within their community\n\nThe main presenter is the Rev. Rubén Durán\, with several outstanding guests sharing models for Hispanic Ministry.\nThe Rev. Rubén Durán serves as Director for New Congregations in the Congregational and Synodical Mission unit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He is responsible for promoting the development of Synodical mission strategies\, local initiatives and emerging models for the multiplication of new communities of faith in the USA and the Caribbean. \nThe Rev. Ruben Duran Ruben is a native of Lima\, Peru\, South America. He served parishes in the Seattle\, Washington and Los Angeles\, California areas prior to becoming Associate to the Bishop and Mission Director for the Metropolitan Chicago Synod\, ELCA. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join other NT-NL Youth Groups going to Detroit this summer for the ELCA Youth Gathering. \nThe theme for this year’s Gathering is the entire book of Mark. This STORYBOOK BEGINNING event will include a presentation of the story of Jesus in Mark by TLU professor Dr. Phil Ruge-Jones\, who is a Markan scholar and storyteller. Dr. Ruge-Jones will present a live performance of the book of Mark for our group. \nWe will also have games\, conversations\, and dinner together so our young people from the NT-NL Mission Area can meet each other as we all prepare for this Journey To Detroit! In addition\, there will be an opportunity for adult leaders to collaborate and share. This event has been paid for by several gifts and all we ask is $5 per person for dinner if you are able. \nMany of you may be traveling from out of town and we have several local churches and host families that would love to gift you with housing for this weekend if you would like to make it a weekend event for your kids. DFW is a great place to do teambuilding with your group—museums\, Texas Rangers baseball games\, Six Flags Over Texas\, Hurricane Harbor\, the Fort Worth Stockyards\, and much more. \nPlease RSVP by Monday\, June 22! The ELCA statement The Use of the Means of Grace describes the theological principles and practical applications of the sacraments in the ELCA\, but the reality is that there are a wide variety of practices across the church. \nJoin us for a conversation about sacramental practice and ways to provide pastoral care that is theologically grounded. \nThis Table Talk will be presented by the Rev. Kevin Strickland\, ELCA Director for Worship\, and the Rev.
