SUMMARY:"Getting to Know the MEF" Sunday
DESCRIPTION:The NT-NL Mission Endowment Fund (MEF) announces its first “Getting to Know the MEF” Sunday\, May 15\, 2022. \nWe are celebrating this grant-giving ministry which has awarded over ONE MILLION DOLLARS since 1996 to congregations in our Synod. Over the years\, the ministries in these congregations have blessed and served countless lives! Our emphasis on that Sunday is to explain the grant application process and to encourage our congregational members to create Christ-centered ministries which could use seed money to get started. We are asking each of our churches to use the materials we will supply to promote this information on Sunday\, May 15\, during worship. In the near future\, we will share an article for your newsletter\, bulletin inserts\, and a short (3 minute) video that can be shown during worship time. We are simply sharing the story of MEF\, which the NT-NL is fortunate to have in place. This is NOT a fundraiser. We ask only for time in your worship on May 15 and for your prayers for continued success to change more lives in the name of Jesus Christ in the future. Please put this event on your church calendar. More information will follow.

Professor of Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Texas\, will be leading our bible study/theological reflection presentations. Dr. Rowe is a well respected theologian of the protestant tradition and particularly the intersection of protestant/Lutheran theology and environmental theology. As we reflect on our synod scripture “The Lord has done great things for us\,” she will challenge us to think about our understandings of God’s creation\, how that intersects with our responsibilities to steward this creation\, and how our theology of free gift might cause us to take creation for granted. She is also married to our UNT Campus Pastor the Rev. Jim Rowe. We are grateful to have Dr. Rowe on our territory and willing to share this time with us. \n\nWe are not offering the option of a Hard Copy of Assembly Reference Materials (previously called the Book of Reports) this year. Bishop Gronberg has indicated his discernment to stand for this election. Following synod practice\, when the current bishop has indicated they will stand for election\, there will be no official pre-nomination process. An elections team independent of the bishop’s office has been authorized by the synod council. Nominations are being accepted for synod treasurer. Please refer those to jason@ntnl.org.

SUMMARY:NT-NL Leadership Convocation
DESCRIPTION:We are planning for this to be a hybrid event\, offered both in person* and online. \n*capped at 35 to be able to safely physically distance\, with everyone on site masked when indoors or within 6 feet of another person \nClick here for a detailed schedule. (as of October 13) \nClick here for the Monday Evening Prayer. \nWe will be focusing on how to capitalize on the new things you have been doing. How to turn our reactions and fast learnings in pandemic into more long term parts of our life. To live into the hybrid in person/online future that is a reality for us all. \nTo assist us in this work we will be led by Dr. Alicia Granholm. Dr. Granholm has two decades of experience in church leadership in mainline and non-denominational settings in the United States and abroad. Most recently she has been coaching four of our NT-NL congregations who are involved in the Leadership for Faithful Innovation Cohort that Bishop Gronberg highlighted in his 2021 synod assembly report. She will work with us on a theology of innovation as well as how to make new things become part of our life. Joining her will also be\, living into our hybrid culture\, online conversation partners that will enrich our time including folks from the Innovation Lab with the ELCA Churchwide office. As we address today’s biggest challenges and opportunities\, the ELCA Innovation Lab is a space for the church to generate ideas\, unleash creativity\, and create positive change in the world God so loves. \nDr. Cláudio Carvalhaes is a professor of liturgy and worship at Union Seminary in New York. He will be joining us online to facilitate conversation about worship and life in our new reality. Carvalhaes\, a native of Brazil\, has both studied and is a cross cultural scholar. He will help us think theologically about our praxis of worship in person and online. To consider practices that engage all participants as much as possible in the liturgy\, the “work of the people.” Dr. Carvalhaes is featured in this August 26 article: Ten Theology Books to Watch For. \nIt will be a good time for us to gather\, think together\, and learn. \nRegistration closed at 12noon on Friday\, October 15. We are not able to allow for late or same day / walk in registrations for this event. \nOvernight lodging at Briarwood is not available this year due to delayed repairs. If you have registered to attend in person and have not already contacted Jason to arrange housing\, you will need to do so on your own. \nDisclaimer: In the interest of safety and public health due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, we reserve the right to enforce public health and safety measures\, depending on the conditions at the time\, at our discretion.
