SUMMARY:NT-NL Youth Gathering 2022
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST \nNT-NL Youth will be gathering July 7-10 for fun\, fellowship\, and service! This event is for any youth who were eligible for the 2022 National Youth Gathering. We will be using the 2022 Gathering Materials to center our time together. Events will start Thursday in the late afternoon and end with worship led by Bishop Gronberg on Sunday morning. Service projects and interfaith growth experiences will help us learn and grow in understanding of our Boundless God. See tentative schedule below. \nCost per youth: $50 \nThis event is subsidized by the NT-NL Youth and Young Adult Leadership Funds. \n(The interest form link has been closed. Registration closed on June 27.) \nUpdated schedule will be provided to registered participants.

The Neighborhood Church has a unique vision to “Change Church. Create Relationship.” Changing Church is a reality that moved The Neighborhood from a school cafeteria to a store front in between a Gym and a Mexican restaurant to a horse arena\, stable\, and barn. The Neighborhood has also embraced change in ministry with Pastor Joe and Deacon Jess establishing relationships with seminaries to create courses and pilot programs for LIFEgroups\, church leadership\, and bible studies. Currently\, they are working on launching The Neighborhood Church University\, a collaborative effort to lead and learn alongside the local church through conferences\, courses\, and curriculum for children’s ministry. Pastor Joe and Deacon Jess are surrounded by their two children: Caylee (12)\, an aspiring singer and volleyball player\, and Landen (10)\, a future YouTube star. Their favorite time together outside their church work involves bringing the kids out in the camper to National Parks across the US and taking hikes to secluded waterfalls. \nCheck out their recent Courageous Leadership presentation via ELCA Coaching: Leadership Challenges in a Digital Ministry Presence. \nOffering: Half of the offering will go to the NT-NL Eastern Conference for hosting us\, and the other half of the offering will go to the NT-NL Synod for transition support for congregations. \n \nChurchwide representative: Javier Goitia \nImportant note regarding Voting Members: Congregations shall be allotted additional voting members as follows: up to 500 baptized members\, two voting members; 501 – 750 baptized members\, 3 voting members; 751 – 1000 baptized members\, 4 voting members; 1001 or more baptized members\, 5 voting members. As we reflect on our synod scripture “The Lord has done great things for us\,” she will challenge us to think about our understandings of God’s creation\, how that intersects with our responsibilities to steward this creation\, and how our theology of free gift might cause us to take creation for granted. A great day for the whole family to enjoy! All ages are welcome. \nTentative schedule: \n11am Lunch available at the Pavilion\n12noon Worship under the Tent (including anniversary celebrations)\n1:15-4pm Activities\, Games\, Popsicles\, Free time \nThe Rev. Christopher Otten\, ELCA Director of Chaplaincy\, will be present with us to preach. During worship\, we will welcome Santa Maria\, Irving\, and kin-dom community\, and we will celebrate milestone ordination anniversaries. \nWorship will be led by musicians from Abiding Grace\, Southlake. Frios Pops (https://friospops.com/)\, one of our connections via our partnership with Paul Quinn College\, will be on site with gourmet popsicles during the afternoon. \nIt has been a tradition at NT-NL synod assemblies to have a book of remembrance in which congregations are invited to share the names of those who have died in the past year so they can be remembered in the prayers of the community. In recent years\, Bishop Gronberg has also invited us to share the names of those who have been baptized into Christ in the past year as well. We invite you to share those names through this online form\, and they will be incorporated into our worship. – Romans 14:8 \n“The events of this day are scheduled to be outside and as such as safe as possible. Masks will be encouraged at all times and required to enter any building. I hope that you will plan to join us as we gather as synod for the first time since April 2019. To be encouraged by community\, and fed by the bread of life.” Read Bishop Gronberg’s full blog post here. \nDisclaimer: In the interest of safety and public health due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, we reserve the right to enforce public health and safety measures\, depending on the conditions at the time\, at our discretion.

SUMMARY:NT-NL Leadership Convocation
DESCRIPTION:We are planning for this to be a hybrid event\, offered both in person* and online. \n*capped at 35 to be able to safely physically distance\, with everyone on site masked when indoors or within 6 feet of another person \nClick here for a detailed schedule. (as of October 13) \nClick here for the Monday Evening Prayer. \nWe will be focusing on how to capitalize on the new things you have been doing. How to turn our reactions and fast learnings in pandemic into more long term parts of our life. To live into the hybrid in person/online future that is a reality for us all. \nTo assist us in this work we will be led by Dr. Alicia Granholm. Dr. Granholm has two decades of experience in church leadership in mainline and non-denominational settings in the United States and abroad. Most recently she has been coaching four of our NT-NL congregations who are involved in the Leadership for Faithful Innovation Cohort that Bishop Gronberg highlighted in his 2021 synod assembly report. She will work with us on a theology of innovation as well as how to make new things become part of our life. Joining her will also be\, living into our hybrid culture\, online conversation partners that will enrich our time including folks from the Innovation Lab with the ELCA Churchwide office. As we address today’s biggest challenges and opportunities\, the ELCA Innovation Lab is a space for the church to generate ideas\, unleash creativity\, and create positive change in the world God so loves. \nDr. Cláudio Carvalhaes is a professor of liturgy and worship at Union Seminary in New York. He will be joining us online to facilitate conversation about worship and life in our new reality. Carvalhaes\, a native of Brazil\, has both studied and is a cross cultural scholar. He will help us think theologically about our praxis of worship in person and online. To consider practices that engage all participants as much as possible in the liturgy\, the “work of the people.” Dr. Carvalhaes is featured in this August 26 article: Ten Theology Books to Watch For. \nIt will be a good time for us to gather\, think together\, and learn. \nRegistration closed at 12noon on Friday\, October 15. We are not able to allow for late or same day / walk in registrations for this event. \nOvernight lodging at Briarwood is not available this year due to delayed repairs. If you have registered to attend in person and have not already contacted Jason to arrange housing\, you will need to do so on your own. \nDisclaimer: In the interest of safety and public health due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, we reserve the right to enforce public health and safety measures\, depending on the conditions at the time\, at our discretion.

SUMMARY:Longest Night / Blue Christmas Service
DESCRIPTION:On December 21st at 7pm\, the NT-NL synod will be hosting an online Longest Night / Blue Christmas worship opportunity. This service is a time of reflection\, prayer\, music\, and draws attention to the reality that while Christmas is a joyful time we also know it can and does bring many griefs. In 2020 in particular it is wise to take time to grieve the many losses we have experienced and continue to experience due to the Covid-19 pandemic while also reflecting on the promise of Immanuel\, God with Us\, coming in the Christ child. \nIn this year when we will have a Christmas unlike any other we invite you to share a time of worship and reflection acknowledging our griefs and losses\, taking seriously those feelings and hurts\, while also hearing words of hope shared in community. \nBishop Gronberg preaching. Rev. Phil Heinz presiding\, and Calvary\, Richland Hills\, musicians providing worship leadership. \nThe service will be livestreamed from Calvary\, Richland Hills\, and shared on our NT-NL Facebook page. \nHere’s a link to the bulletin for the service.

SUMMARY:2021 Synod Assembly
DESCRIPTION:Theme: Entrusted \nScripture: “Think of us in this way\, as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries. Moreover\, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.“ 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 \nDrawing on the ELW baptismal liturgy in which the Pastor reminds the parents of their duties… \n“As you bring your children to receive the gift of baptism\, you are Entrusted with responsibilities:\nto live with them among God’s faithful people\,\nbring them to the word of God and the holy supper\,\nteach them the Lord’s Prayer\, the Creed\, and the Ten Commandments\,\nto place in their hands the holy scriptures\,\nand nurture them in faith and prayer\,\nso that your children may learn to trust God\,\nproclaim Christ through word and deed\,\ncare for others and the world God made\,\nand work for justice and peace.”\n  \nAs synod in 2021 we have been entrusted with God’s mysteries (2 Cor. 4:1-2) and we are expected then also to be trustworthy. But this expectation\, this law\, also comes with promise. The parents alone do not make promises in baptism. The sponsors and community also make promises to support the parents and the baptized in this work. And as we know also\, God ultimately is the promise giver in baptism. \nAs we continue our work in 2021 we have been Entrusted with a Word to share and a gospel to live. I give thanks to you\, the leaders of NT-NL for the ways you have shown yourselves trustworthy in 2020 and look forward to being #InMissionTogether in 2021. For full context\, read more in Bishop Gronberg’s blog here. \nBishop Mike Girlinghouse will keynote our time speaking about his book Embracing God’s Future Without Forgetting the Past. \nThe 2021 Synod Assembly will be held online. \nWe are charging a small registration fee this year to provide resources for enhanced technology and for honorariums for presenters. Learning from our experience in 2020\, we hope this Assembly experience will be enhanced and continue to grow our capacity for hosting online gatherings. \nIf your congregation did not have an annual meeting in which you elected voting members for synod assembly\, the ELCA attorneys have counseled us that you should send the same individuals as were designated in 2020 to the assembly in 2021. Only if you have not designated assembly voting members for 2021. \nAt this assembly\, we will be electing voting members from NT-NL for the 2022 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Columbus\, OH (August 10-13\, 2022). We will elect 6 individuals (2 young adults\, 2 lay members\, and 2 clergy). If you would like to nominate someone\, please contact Bishop Gronberg at BpGronberg@ntnl.org. \n2021 Synod Assembly Reference Materials \nVoting Members who registered by April 15 were sent a login link on April 22 to participate via Zoom on April 24. \nVisitors will be able to participate via Facebook (no account required). Registration not required. \n \nWe have also booked the services of Jonathan Zitelman with SimpleMan Productions and A Divine Canvas for this year’s Assembly for a better experience for all attendees. \n\nA HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR 2021 SYNOD ASSEMBLY SPONSORS: \n \nCottonpatch Designs \n \nMission Investment Fund of the ELCA \n \nSunset Lutheran Ministries \n \nLutheran Foundation of the Southwest \n \nLutheran Via de Cristo of North Texas

SUMMARY:Online Synod Assembly
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, September 26\, 1:00-4:30pm \n*For Voting Members attending today\, friendly reminder we will need to occasionally lock the webinar (meaning you will not be able to join) when we need to produce credentialing reports and do voting. You can find the approximate times in the proposed agenda.* \nREGISTRATION DETAILS: \n\nVoting Members registered in advance (by Friday\, September 18) to be able to attend and vote in this year’s Assembly. You will receive a reminder email from Zoom containing information about joining the webinar the day before\, and one hour before\, Assembly. You may need to check your junk / spam folder. Once you log into the Zoom webinar\, be sure your name reflects how you registered so that you can be confirmed and allowed to vote. \nWe will be live streaming to the NT-NL Facebook page (no account required) and recording this event for all other attendees. \n\n\n— — — \n\nTo access the Assembly Reference Materials: https://www.ntnl.org/2020-assembly-reference-materials/ (more items to be added in the coming weeks) \nImportant notes for this year’s Assembly: \nThanks to our good stewardship in previous years\, we can offer this online experience at no cost to congregations. \nEach voting member will need their own email address to register\, and they will need to log into the Zoom webinar on September 26 with that same email address. \nEach voting member will need to access the Zoom webinar with their own device to be able to vote. Ideally\, this would be a computer so that polling (our voting option this year) is easily seen and accessed. If a tablet or phone is the only option\, we highly recommend practicing before Assembly on how to access all the functions of Zoom webinars on each device\, specifically where to find the poll option in a timely manner when that opens for each ballot. \nIf any voting member does not have access to any type of device to be able to login into (not call into) the Zoom webinar\, please contact jason@ntnl.org as soon as possible\, and we will research options. We will need to know this by Monday\, August 31. \nIf any voting member needs translation in Spanish (there is a language interpretation option within Zoom webinars)\, please contact jason@ntnl.org by Monday\, August 31\, and we’ll do our best to get that set up. \nEvery voting member must be registered by Friday\, September 18. No exceptions\, no late registrations\, and no “walk-ins” will be allowed this year. There are more requirements for online voting than in person\, and we need time to implement them to ensure every voting member can be confirmed and their votes are secure. \nWe will hold two orientations (30-45 minutes each) prior to Assembly: Tuesday\, September 22\, 7pm\, and Wednesday\, September 23\, 11am. If you are new to Zoom or have ever had issues with Zoom or your device\, please plan to log in up to 30 minutes prior to the orientation to troubleshoot with Jason beforehand. We highly recommend every voting member attend at least one orientation to help us avoid being overwhelmed with requests the day of Assembly. \nWe ask that all Assembly\, including technology-related\, questions be routed to jason@ntnl.org. Especially starting Friday\, September 18\, and through Assembly on Saturday\, September 26\, the rest of synod staff and the Council executive team will be largely unavailable to answer questions as we plan for this new way of doing Assembly. Jason will be available to answer questions for you. We highly recommend each voting member start now on learning their device with Zoom and ask questions sooner rather than later. Please know we will do our best to support everyone\, and if folks wait until the day of\, we cannot guarantee their full participation (including being able to vote) in this year’s Assembly if we are inundated with requests. \nLet’s have fun with this. We’re all experimenting and learning. We appreciate your grace\, and we are praying for each of you. \nMore details forthcoming about this online experience. \nTo read Bishop’s announcement from July 28: https://www.ntnl.org/bishops-message-tuesday-july-28th-assembly-news/ \nTo review details from our original Assembly event page: https://www.ntnl.org/event/2020-synod-assembly/
