We have been experiencing a shortage of interim pastors lately, so it was with mixed emotions that I went to participate in a farewell and thank you for Pr. Rich Pounds this weekend. He has served at Christ the Servant in Allen for two years as they went through a search and call process. His farewell was delayed as he went through bypass surgery and recovery. The congregation is now served by newly ordained pastor Cheryl Herreid.
Pr. Herreid understands that proper closure for the congregation is also important so she happily included a litany of farewell and thanks in the Sunday service as well as a celebration lunch to follow worship. I was blessed to have this weekend open so I could participate as well.
Pr. Pounds and his wife Doris were well lived in this congregation. Pr. Herreid and her family have also already been heartily welcomed. The choir performed a beautiful anthem at the lunch. And of course there was an excellent spread for lunch. One of the privileges of my call!
I am personally deeply grateful for Rich Pounds’ ministry so I was happy to be able to celebrate with them. His retirement is well earned.
