One can’t participate in worship at Advent without sticking around to worship with the Spanish language congregation of Adviento. Pr Edy Santos leads this congregation at Advent. He is fairly new to our synod and went through the Candidacy process in my time. So I am grateful for his ministry.
It’s particularly gratifying to see the growth of this worshipping community. When Pr. Santos began here three years ago, they had about three people – including Edy and his wife, Ingrid. On this Sunday they had about 75 in worship. The worship was lively too, with a baptism and a presentation as part of the day.
One significant touch that showed the sensitivity of Pr. Santos was the fact that he asked one of his women in leadership to do the translating of my sermon. He felt it was important for a female voice to translate the words coming from a woman preacher. Details can be important.
The celebration of the day continued with a shared meal in the fellowship hall. My day had been already quite long and I knew I would already be struggling with the drive home, so I begged off on that. Next time!
