Monday June 8th was a relatively quiet day at home. Enjoyed some time with kiddos and did some harvesting in our garden. Trying to help them enjoy the goodness that is home grown veggies.
Had the opportunity to gather via zoom with colleagues in Tarrant County on a call with Tarrant Churches Together and Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley. The topics were the commissioners court seeking county faith leaders’ input on issues of systemic racism in Tarrant County and particularly a monument dedicated to Confederate soldiers on the Tarrant County Courthouse grounds.
The monument is a relatively new addition to the grounds, placed there in the 1950s, and the commissioners court is considering moving it. I appreciated Judge Whitley engaging a diverse group of faith leaders in this conversation and hearing how seeing this monument might impact impressions of impartial rulings for those seeking justice in the court.
Later in the afternoon I spent time with Briarwood Leadership Center summer staff leaders. Talking about leading bible studies both online and in person this summer. Daycamp starts July 6th in person. Online content is being prepared and shared via their Facebook page. Great to connect with these young adult leaders in our church. #NTNL #BWTX #InMissionTogether
