December 15th was a joyous day of holy obligation. Every year I make sure to get the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fort Worth children’s program on my calendar. I wouldn’t miss seeing my kids take part in this important event in the life of their church. Also it is a critical time for me to have them proclaim the Advent/Christmas story to me and the community.
Across NT-NL Synod, ELCA programs like this are taking place. Some on Sundays and others on other days. These events are not entertainment. They are leadership formation opportunities. In these moments the children, as Pastor Matt Schroeder at Trinity reminded them, proclaim to us the story of God’s incarnate love. By proclaiming this story they are given the opportunity to lead and learn how to fulfill their baptismal vows to witness to Jesus Christ and tell the story of God’s love.
I asked folks to share in the comments pictures from their congregations celebrations. Those that were shared are below. Passing on the faith is done when we tell the story over and over. In so doing partnering with the Holy Spirit in creating faith. #NTNL #InMissionTogether
