This is my second week in a row visiting one of our bilingual congregations. I have been to First Sagrada Familia before, but my last visit was to install Synodically Authorized Worship Leader Angel Villalobos Moncada over a year ago. Angel is a young man who has been prepared though our Parish Lay Ministry Academy, and who now plans to enter Candidacy to work toward ordained ministry.

The congregation is one that is greatly affected by the fears and anxieties surrounding our nation’s immigration issue, unfortunately. This was evident today as their attendance was about half of their usual number due to uncertainty about status this week in particular. ICE incites fear everywhere.

But in spite of fear, spirits were good and worship was full of children and young adults. This congregation always has a tremendous welcome as well, enhanced by their weekly gathering to share lunch after worship. This is a beautiful congregation and a lovely church home.
