I spent the 1st Sunday of Advent with the people of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas. This was my second occasion to preach there in the month of November as they have been in a “interim interim” period. Tomorrow their interim pastor Don Haven will begin his ministry amongst them as they look forward in mission.
The Advent 1 texts spoke clearly to us today about active waiting. While we may want to just hibernate on a chilly day like today, to say “wake me up when its over,” Jesus’ words and those of the prophet Isaiah remind us to be alert. To be aware of what God is doing and to participate actively in our waiting. While we do not know the day or the hour, we do know the who of our waiting.
As Advent has begun across our synod I know many are making and modifying plans for the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany season. This will be a Christmas like no other in our communities. That can be good news, as we explore new things. This week I will finalize my sermons for Christmas and the 1st Sunday after Christmas to be shared with the synod and made available December 8th. #NTNL #InMissionTogether
