I have shared some of Carey Nieuwhof’s posts over the course of this year since he presented at the ELCA Larger Church online gathering. He has provided some useful counsel for congregational leaders and I believe is doing so in this post again as well. In fact we discussed this at our NT-NL Synod, ELCA leadership check in (you are welcome to join us any Thursday at 10am). Although nothing he is saying here is new, he says it in a way that might be accessible in new ways.
This pandemic is hastening realities that challenge us and our world. Including challenging why people go to church at all. We can lament the consumptive reality of our society or we can focus on the mission. We gather as the church because we are the church and Jesus expected us to do so and promises to be with us. We gather to bring others to hear the message and to invite them into the way of Jesus. Worth a quick read. #NTNL #InMissionTogether
