A friend of my spouse asked her the other day, somewhat tongue in cheek, “What did you do for Jesus today?” Well the week of September 9th I spent time on two golf courses for Jesus. More than I do the entire rest of the year (and my back showed it). All in the name of supporting ministries that show Jesus to the world.
Monday the 9th was the annual golf outing fundraiser for The Church of the Damascus Road. This is our NT-NL Synod, ELCA ministry to those who are incarcerated. It has grown through the impact and work of SAWL Dan Lund to both include worship in mutiple state jails but also bible based recovery programs both behind the walls and in congregations in our area.
I have sponsored and hole and brought a foursome each year to this event as it is a wonderful time of fellowship and golf. This year I had some trouble filling out my foursome due to cancellations and busy schedules. So I was thankful for Pastor Janice, Duane, and Gary coming along for the day.
The new traveling trophy for this event is a statue of Martin Luther. They let me hold it before the event because they knew I would not hoist it at the end. Grateful for the work of this ministry and for all who support CoDR.
On Friday we again went to play golf (and last time probably for a year) for Briarwood’s 2019 Golf Outing to support Briarwood Retreat Center/Briarwood Leadership Center. This year I wound up sponsoring 2 foursomes. I played with members of St. Lukes, Richardson and a few NT-NL pastors and a member of Advent, Arlington played in the other. My kids sponsored the closest to the pin making it fully a family affair supporting this ministry so dear to our hearts.
Grateful for all the golfers who came out and the leadership team who put this event together. It is a fun time of fellowship and support for this vital ministry of NT-NL Synod, ELCA. #NTNL #BWTX #CODR #InMissionTogether
