Briarwood was filled with the lovely smells of smoked meats on Saturday when I arrived for a really awesome job – judging those lovely barbecued meats that were smoked all night long by members from seven Lutheran congregations in the area.
While I took my job seriously, it sure was hard not to drool my way through the chicken, ribs, and brisket. In between rounds, each team also had incredible desserts to sample as well. S’mores cooked in dough over the fire? Sure, I’ll try those!
While the Grand Carnivore prize went to a team from our LC-MS peers, we were well represented by three ELCA teams. Faith in Flower Mound took first prize for both ribs and brisket. Good eats there in Flower Mound!
Looking forward to next year’s competition!
