As Lutheran Christians we are represented in Jerusalem when the Christian Heads of Churches gather. This is a function of our global relationships through The Lutheran World Federation. A reminder that our faith and our relationships cross national boundaries and borders. Grateful to remember four years ago this month when I was honored to join in laying hands on Bishop Azar as he became the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. The Christian Heads of Churches met today (Jan 12, 2022) to mark the Christmas holiday and celebrate our shared joy in the birth of Jesus Christ. Each Head of Church offered a prayer and a reflection on the importance of gathering together in shared faith.
Bishop Azar represented the ELCJHL, accompanied by Rev. Gabi Aelabouni, Rev. Dr. Meghan Johnston Aelabouni, Rev. Carrie Ballenger, Probst Joachim Lenz, and Rev. Fursan Ayed Zumot.
Bishop Ibrahim Azar spoke about the unity of Christian communities in the face of adversity, as was done this Christmas season, brings us all closer together in the shared ministry of Christ.
