It was a #MilesAndMiles Saturday on June 1st across NT-NL Synod, ELCA. This morning my eldest and I tested for new belts (her: red me: purple) at North Texas Karate Academy, LLC. My daughter started at #NTKA almost 4 years ago. I chose to begin classes when I tired of just watching. It has been a good journey thus far.
After our belt test I had a bite of lunch and then went to Trinity Lutheran Church for a funeral. Deacon Alicia Wills of the Southwestern Texas Synod, who had been a part of Trinity when a student Brite Divinity School, died tragically, a victim of domestic violence. I brought a word from the church on behalf of Bishop Sue Briner of the SWTexas Synod. In the midst of grief we trust in the promise of baptism. The hope of life. In her death we take renewed vigilance to speak against and educate and work to eradicate domestic violence.
From there I went to Abiding Grace Lutheran Church for Kathryn’s Ordination! Kathryn Saunders-Allen was raised up by Abiding Grace and will now serve Good Shepherd, Irving. Ordinations are a great occasion in the life of our church and a reminder that we are #InMissionTogether. The combined choir of Good Shepherd and Abiding Grace sang beautifully. The bbq crew was on point with amazing bbq meat as well as smoked sweet potatoes and cabbage.
It was a powerful day full of the joy and sorrow of life together in community. Reminding us we are to work together for the sake of the gospel, justice, and peace. #NTNL
