Dear Partners in Mission:
This past weekend we celebrated the feast of the Pentecost. The moment the Holy Spirit came like a rush of wind to affirm the words of Jesus that he would send upon the disciples the Spirit and they would be sent into all the world. It is a powerful time for us today, especially as so many are trying to divide us and convince us only some are truly part of the church based on nationality, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, wealth, education, etc… Pentecost blows that notion away and sends us forth.
I had two wonderful opportunities to celebrate this festival this weekend. On Saturday at 1st Sagrada Familia in Garland. Worshiping in English and en Espanol we confirmed and communed new members into this community. It is always a privilege to be a part of these celebrations and I thank Pastor Jose and their lay catechists for inviting me and honoring the office of Bishop by this invitation.
Then Sunday I had the opportunity to be a parent as our middle child affirmed her baptism through the rite of confirmation at our family’s congregation Trinity-FW. Standing with my spouse we presented her for this rite, just as 14 years ago we stood at the baptismal font there and made promises to bring her to this day. Grateful for those at Trinity who have shepherded her on this path and brought her to this place.
The Spirit is at work in our communities and in our lives. As the children’s sermon reminded me on Sunday we can’t see the rush of the wind, but we certainly feel it. God is at work in us and the we are…
