Today I left the state for my Sunday visit as I traveler to Oklahoma to visit our one congregation in that state. Ironically, Our Saviour’s is as close to my home as many of our metroplex congregations.
The congregation, served by Pr. Jeff Corsin, is also a vitally active congregation in their community. It never ceases to amaze me how much our smaller congregations do with their generous hearts.
One of their members recently did a display about all of their ministries which took up two walls in the fellowship hall. It is clear that they have a definite impact on the community.
The two I saw most visibly were the mitten and sock tree which is just a part of their partnership with a local school, and the Pastor’s Pantry which serves many of their transient and homeless neighbors.
I definitely want to return for a visit to The Backdoor – a coffeehouse event that takes place every few months to offer an opportunity to local musicians and artists to share their talents. What better excuse to head up to Durant on a Thursday evening?
The congregation showed me wonderful hospitality today, as I met many of the strong leaders and amazingly confident young adults who give me great hope for this congregation in Oklahoma!
