Dr. Michael Sorrell is President of Paul Quinn College where our 2020 NT-NL Synod, ELCA assembly was to be held. He wrote this article for the Chronicle of Higher Education recently. His words challenge us to look beyond immediate questions of opening for in-person worship and other short term considerations to longer term issues. Things will be different and we can either lean into that or continue to react and be frustrated. While the either/or political fracas continues around us, we are called as the church to something more. How do we cross boundaries and borders and connect with our neighbors. Understanding their reality. Currently the most impacted congregation in NT-NL by Coronavirus is Santa Maria in Exile with 16 positive cases. This congregation, a member of Conferencia Latina has a number of essential workers. Individuals who are exposed daily by their work. We should be aware of the disproportionate and uneven experience of our siblings in this crisis.
We have reached out to our partners at PQC to see if there is anyway our resources at Briarwood Leadership Center could be of use to them or ther students in anyway. It is my hope that we will see this relationship grow and thrive just as I pray for each of our NT-NL congregations and leaders as they work through these decisions. #NTNL #BWTX #PQC #InMissionTogether
