Have my red shirt and Reformation Sunday socks on. Commemorate 502 years since that fateful day in Wittenberg. A day that changed the world and set us on a course of re-forming life and faith.
That day in Wittenberg of course didn’t just magically happen. It was reformers who had gone before and years of preparation that led to the pivotal moment that reverberates to this day. The proclamation it is by faith, not works of the law, by which we are made right with God.
Reminded today of 30 years ago in East Germany and the building energy that led to the dismantling of the Berlin Wall on Nov 9th. That day of freedom coming also didn’t just happen. Our preacher reminded us of the Liepzig prayer meetings that began at St Nicholas Church (a Lutheran church and the church of Bach) in the early 1980s and reached critical mass in Oct 1989 when tens and utimately hundreds of thousands peacefully marched for freedom.
We are a church of change proclaiming that God has claimed us and set us free to live and serve for the life of the world. To be people of peace and justice. May we ever be formed and reformed for this work. #NTNL #InMissionTogether
