It was a blessed reformation weekend across NT-NL Synod, ELCA. I enjoyed seeing so many celebrations of our heritage of faith across our congregations. Remembering the events of 500+ years ago that continue to resonate for us today. Salvation is not for sale, the gospel sets us free to serve and live for our neighbors.

On Saturday we gathered at Trinity Lutheran, Clifton, TX to give thanks for the life of Rev. Calvin (Cal) Goerdel and the gospel promises given in baptism he claimed this past week. It was a blessing to gather with Pastor Wright, the Trinity community, and others to remember this faithful pastor, leader, and churchman. Cal served in a amazing number of ways. As a congregational pastor, leader of social ministry, and as chair of the bishop election committee for NT-NL in 2016. I was honored to preside over the liturgy as we gave thanks for his life and witness. Pastor Wright preached a strong and appropriate funeral sermon.
Sunday I was blessed to be with the folks of Abiding Grace Lutheran Church in Southlake for worship. On a beautiful morning we gathered outside for the 9am liturgy and then at 11am we moved indoors for the rite of affirmation of baptism. I was honored to be asked to preach by Pastor Nick Billardello as my niece affirmed her baptismal faith along with 2 others from the congregation.
Heard also about Abiding Grace’s partnership with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Irving Texas to provide a community meal and stock their food pantry shelves this November. Good Shepherd is served by a daughter of Abiding Grace the Rev. Kathryn Saunders-Allen who we ordained in 2019.
Much joy even in the midst of sorry and loss. The faith is passed on and communities continue to learn and discern how we can do this work #InMissionTogether. #milesandmiles #NTNL
