Bill Horne was a husband, the ELCA Churchwide Vice President, the city manager of Clearwater, FL, a veteran of the U.S. Armed Services (achieving the rank of Colonel), our 2017 NT-NL Synod, ELCA assembly Churchwide representative, and a churchman of a style sadly in decline in our world.

Ultimately he was someone I knew I could count on to lead our ELCA Church Council well, who would, despite the amazing demands of his job, take my call and give me wise counsel. When I learned of his death this morning from our Presiding Bishop I was entering worship with my family. I am so grateful that in that moment I heard again the promises of the gospel, of baptism, that Bill has now claimed. We will miss him greatly and our church is wounded by his loss. Others will step forward, but we will need time to grieve this loss.
