In the ELCA, there is a tradition that the Women of the ELCA have practiced for years just before Thanksgiving – the women’s Thankoffering Service. Worship is led by the women of the congregation as they also bring their yearly offerings of gratitude. I often get invited to preach, representing women in ministry. This year I was invited to Calvary Lutheran in Richland Hills.
Calvary has also recently finished a renovation and expansion project. They have a gorgeous sanctuary and new pipe organ, as well as new narthex space. Calvary will also be hosting the Synod Assembly in April, so the whole synod will get to experience this wonderful space. I got a preview.
In addition, I got to know a few children in the congregation as well as reconnecting with a tremendous young adult who helped with our booth at the National Youth Gathering in July. Amanda is a gift to the church and a joy to be around.
All in all, it was a great weekend to set the tone for my Thanksgiving holiday.
