On Tuesday November 16th NT-NL Synod, ELCA along with Briarwood Leadership Center and King of Glory Lutheran Church, Dallas were honored to welcome Dr. Mitri Raheb to speak about his new book “The Politics of Persecution.” As always Dr. Raheb, a Lutheran pastor and social entrepreneur (including developing a ministry and university in Bethlehem), presented a provocative and well researched argument. He also spoke as always about the challenges the Palestinian people continue to face as well as the amazing resilience they continue to demonstrate.
It was wonderful to see my predecessor in the office of bishop, the Rev. Kevin Kanouse, as he attended the presentation along with many others who have traveled to Palestine to visit our siblings in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. As we are able and travel becomes more open there will be a Briarwood Leadership Journey to the Holy Land as soon as possible.
Later that day I was blessed to also meet with President Kristin Johnston Largen of Wartburg Theological Seminary. President Largen was in town to visit our synod as well as meet with Interim Director of the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest, the Rev. Violeta Del Aguila Siguenza, a pastor of the NT-NL. Great to hear from President Largen all of what is happening at Wartburg and with LSPS.
We are connected locally, nationally, and globally by the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thankful for all these witnesses and co-workers in this mission. #NTNL #BWTX #InMissionTogether
