There was a major wind storm in Freetown, Sierra Leone last night (May 18th). The roof of the Jubilee Center facility was significantly damaged. This is a discouraging disaster for the community of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sierra Leone, our global partners. NT-NL Synod, ELCA congregations and individuals gave generously towards its construction.
As I reported when I visited the ELCSL in 2018 that despite the dedication ceremonies for the sanctuary in 2013 the construction of the Jubilee Center had not been completed. Additionally, the condition and upkeep of the Jubilee Center has been a challenge as has been construction around it that has created other challenges such as accessibility.
