NT-NL News: June 2023, Second Tuesday

June 13, 2023 | NT–NL News By Anna Thompson

Deacon Jessica and Rev. Joe Liles’ First Plenary Session from Synod Assembly

ELCA Mission Support Memo

ELCA Mission Support is excited to share their May ELCA Mission Support Memo. What a joy it is to know Mission Support is at work across our church: serving folks on the margins, growing leaders, supporting ministry, and engaging us all in our local communities, national church and global work.

These stories are a reminder of what is possible through the generosity towards Mission Support.

Migrant & Refugee Sunday

You can choose which date

Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) invites you and your congregation to infuse new meaning into the phrase welcome the stranger. Join us in celebrating the resilience and courage of refugees and migrants in America — and in your own community!

World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.

This year, the focus will be on the right to seek safety. Every person on this planet has a right to seek safety – whoever they are, wherever they come from and whenever they are forced to flee.

Whoever. Wherever. Whenever.
Everyone has the right to seek safety.

MEF Sunday

On Sunday, September 17, the NTNL’s Mission Endowment Fund will celebrate the annual MEF Sunday event!

In conjunction with North Texas Giving Day on Tuesday, September 19, our event continues to spread awareness of the Mission Endowment Fund.

As you already know, the MEF is the grant giving arm of the North Texas-North Louisiana Synod of the ELCA which provides needed and necessary money to our own congregations to start or to continue ministries which would not be funded otherwise.

We will provide our congregations with materials which will inform about the MEF in general, will provide exciting updates about our next Seeds that Change banquet, will celebrate current grant recipient’s progress, will outline the steps for the next grant application process, and will offer new avenues to assist with our Legacy Partner efforts.

Donate anytime here, select the Mission Endowment Fund in the dropdown menu.

Where in the world is?

Across a context as wide and different as NT-NL, the reality of Covid-19 is very different. As such, NT-NL synod staff are doing more in-person Sunday visits for worship and occasional meetings. However, as good stewards of time and travel dollars, we will be utilizing online meeting formats into our new hybrid future. Given the rise of breakthrough infections and in order to protect those gathered, the synod staff will choose to wear masks as is deemed appropriate unless preaching or presiding and sufficient social distancing can be provided.
