ELCA Federal Credit Union
We recently celebrated the one-year anniversary (on July 15). We are excited about the positive financial impact the ELCA Federal Credit Union is having on our members’ lives. We invite you to watch the new video that explains how credit unions operate—and how the ELCAFCU is helping our members do more with their money. Please feel free to share this video with anyone associated with the ELCA; they are also eligible to enjoy the many great benefits of belonging to our credit union.
Immigration “Know Your Rights” Seminar
August 9, 6:30-8:30pm
Advent, Arlington
Immigration attorney Patricia Freshwater and colleague(s) of the firm Schwamkrug, Freshwater and Lopez, PLLC, will offer an immigration “Know Your Rights” seminar. The attorney(s) will respond to general questions during the “Know Your Rights” presentation. They will also offer an opportunity to consult briefly about specific situations with participants following the presentation.
The “Know Your Rights” presentation and the brief initial consultation with an attorney are offered free of charge and without obligation. Participants deciding that they want legal services are free to choose any law firm that they like. The attorney(s) conducting this seminar will discuss potential fees following the initial consultation with anyone who might be interested in their services.
ELCA Social Message on Human Rights
The Draft of a Social Message on Human Rights has been available on the ELCA website since the beginning of July for reading and response. The comment period runs until August 31.
The Draft is available online only, but it can be downloaded for review. There are two primary ways to provide feedback: 1) Fill out the online response form, or 2) Send comments via email to eva.johnson@elca.org. All feedback will be shared with Theological Discernment staff and the consulting group preparing the message.
In early September, the revision work will be finalized and a Proposed Message will then be shared with members of the Conference of Bishops for review before it makes its way to the November Church Council meeting.
Congratulations
We celebrate with Rev. Kristin and John Klade on the birth of their son on July 1: Frank Arnold Klade (9 lb 14 oz).
