Mission of the Month: Supporting Sunday Schools in Bolivia
After hearing many times that there was a need for Lutheran materials in the Bolivian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kari Eller decided to involve her husband, Justin, and others to create inexpensive, accessible Sunday school materials that could be used by a variety of teachers.
With the help of the ELCA’s Equipping God’s People Project, the Ellers were able to coordinate and create a Sunday school book.
“We share the book with a pay-it-forward mentality in hopes that other Spanish-speaking Lutherans around the world who create Christian education materials, whether they are for Sunday school, workshops, confirmation, etc., will want to do the same and share their resources with others as well,” Kari says.

The Rev. Judith Spindt, Director of Evangelical Mission for the Southwest Texas Synod, will present this seminar, Tuesday, August 19 from 10:00-4:00 at Briarwood Retreat Center.
This one-day seminar is strongly recommended for all leaders in the church, rostered and lay, employed and volunteer. The seminar will address how to establish and maintain personal and professional boundaries, when dealing with coworkers, with parishioners, and with youth.
For those in and around the Metroplex, we hope to see you at Briarwood. Those of you outside the Metroplex will be able to participate via live stream; you will have to validate your participation. Pastor Jane Mar will provide more information about that process the day of the event.
Please join us for this important seminar. Most church insurance plans strongly recommend congregation leaders and staff attend this training.
Cost for the seminar is $12 for lunch. To register, or if you have any questions, please email Pastor Jane at jane@ntnl.org.
Studying Luther in Wittenberg: Invitation to the Eighth International Seminar within the Luther Decade
You are invited to send a pastor to the 10th seminar which will take place in Wittenberg from November 8th until November 22nd, 2014 and will be led by Prof. Dr. Theodor Dieter and Prof. Dr. Sarah Hinlicky Wilson from the Institute for Ecumenical Research in Strasbourg. The topic of the seminar will be: “The Christian and the Government: Luther’s View of Temporal Authority”. The seminar takes place in the Colleg Wittenberg, a venue right in the center of Luther’s town. About 150 pastors from the different member churches have already participated in the 9 previous seminars within the Luther decade in Wittenberg, but so far not all member churches have used this chance to send someone to such a seminar. Therefore, we especially invite those churches to the next seminar in November 2014! You might be interested to read the comments from the previous participants. Read the letter of invitation here, and download the nomination form here.
